The Haven Between Animal Rescue was built around a simple belief:
No animal deserves to be abandoned, forgotten, or left behind.
Sometimes an animal doesn’t need you to be their forever. They just need someone willing to be their safe place until forever finds them.
That’s The Haven Between.
We’re a foster-based animal rescue providing abandoned, orphaned, neglected, surrendered, and at-risk animals with the safety, care, and time they need before moving into permanent, loving homes.
We don’t operate a traditional shelter or kennel facility. Our animals live in homes, where they can decompress, heal, learn to trust, play, socialize, and show us who they really are.
Because we’re not interested in simply getting animals adopted.
We want them home.
And there’s a difference.
How The Haven Between Began
The Haven Between didn’t begin with a building, a big organization, or even a plan to start a rescue. And right now, we’re still a one-woman operation with support from other rescues and fosters. But we have big plans!
It began with animals who needed somewhere to go.
One rescue led to another. Then came kittens who needed around-the-clock care, mama cats who needed somewhere safe to raise their babies, animals with medical needs, and frightened little ones who needed time and patience before they could trust people.
I found myself doing more and more of the work of rescue: creating safe spaces in my own home, coordinating veterinary care, feeding, cleaning, socializing, worrying, problem-solving, losing sleep, and celebrating every tiny milestone.

The first time a scared animal plays while you’re sitting nearby.
The first touch they finally allow.
Watching an animal who arrived frightened begin sleeping peacefully out in the open because they’ve learned they’re safe.
Those moments changed something for me.
I realized I didn’t simply want to help animals when one happened to cross my path.
I wanted to build something that could keep helping them.
And The Haven Between was born.
Meet Kimberly
Hi, I’m Kimberly, founder of The Haven Between Animal Rescue.
I’m the person and one-woman show behind the rescue; the food server, litter-box cleaner, appointment scheduler, kitten socializer, photographer, adoption coordinator, chauffeur, and person asking, “How did you get up there?”
Animals have always mattered to me, as a young child animals and I were drawn to each other. And as I grew, I also realized I could feel that they were feeling and that allowed something special between us.
But rescue has taught me something different.
Love and feeling their energy alone isn’t enough.
Animals need safe places. They need medical care. They need people willing to be patient when they’re scared. They need foster homes when shelters and rescues are full. They need someone willing to advocate for them when they’re inconvenient, sick, shy, injured, or simply unwanted.
They need time to adjust and trust. And they need us to take the responsibility of placing them seriously.
That’s why The Haven Between isn’t about moving animals through the system as quickly as possible.
I want to know them.
I want to understand their personalities, what scares them, what makes them feel safe, and what kind of home will give them the best chance of staying there for life.
And when one of our animals leaves for their new home, our responsibility doesn’t simply end.
Once a Haven Between animal, always a Haven Between animal.
If an adopter can no longer care for an animal adopted from us, we require that they come back to The Haven Between rather than being abandoned, surrendered, given away, or passed from home to home.
Because they’ve already lost a home once.
We’re going to do everything we reasonably can to make sure they don’t have to keep losing them.
What We Do
We’re beginning where we can make the greatest difference responsibly: cats, kittens, and small animals, cared for through foster homes rather than a traditional shelter.
As our foster network, resources, veterinary partnerships, and community support grow, so can the number and types of animals we’re able to help.
Every animal’s journey is different, but our role remains the same:
Rescue. Foster. Heal. Home.
Rescue
We provide a safe landing place for animals who are abandoned, orphaned, neglected, surrendered, injured, or otherwise at risk, based on the foster space and resources available to care for them responsibly.
Foster
Our animals live in real homes. Foster care gives them something a kennel simply can't replicate: everyday life. They learn household sounds and routines, interact with people, play, rest, build confidence, and begin learning what it feels like to belong somewhere.
Heal
Healing isn't always medical. We coordinate appropriate veterinary and preventative care, including services such as vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and spay/neuter. But some animals need another kind of healing too. They need patience. They need socialization. They need someone to sit nearby without demanding anything from them until curiosity finally becomes stronger than fear. We give them that time.
Home
Adoption isn't the finish line just because someone wants an animal. We screen prospective adopters, check references and veterinary history when applicable, conduct home visits, and look carefully at whether the animal and household are genuinely a good match. Sometimes that means saying no to a perfectly nice person because they're simply not the right home for that particular animal. Our responsibility is to the animal first. The goal isn't an adoption. It's a lasting one.
What We Believe
Compassion
Every animal deserves gentleness, dignity, patience, and respect, regardless of where they came from or how much care they require.
Responsibility
Our desire to save animals has to be matched by our ability to care for them well. We rescue within our available foster, medical, financial, and placement capacity so that saying yes to another animal never means failing the ones already depending on us.
Transparency
Adopters deserve to know the animal they're bringing home. We share what we know about their health, personality, history, behavior, and needs so families can make informed decisions.
The Right Match
Every animal is different. We don't believe in first-come, first-served placement. We believe in the right fit.
Commitment
Our responsibility doesn't disappear when the adoption paperwork is signed. We're here as a resource for our adopters, and if circumstances ever make it impossible for them to continue caring for their Haven Between animal, we want that animal back with us. They will always have somewhere safe to return.
It Takes More Than One Home
The Haven Between may have started in my home, but it can't grow through my home alone.
Foster-based rescue works because ordinary people decide they have room for one more animal for a little while.
Every foster home creates another safe place. Every adopter makes room for another rescue. Every volunteer gives us more hands. Every donation helps provide food, litter, supplies, veterinary care, medication, microchips, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services. Every share helps an animal's future family find them.
You don't have to rescue twenty animals to make a difference. Sometimes you just have to help one.

Quality food, litter, toys, and all supplies provided to foster families when the 501c(3) is approved.

Your support still goes directly toward helping us provide food, supplies, veterinary care, and safe foster homes for the animals who need us.
